Juice WRLD Died of Accidental OD, Authorities Declare

January 24, 2020

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled on Wednesday afternoon, 22 January, that Juice WRLD died from an accidental overdose.

The 21-year-old rapper – real name Jarad Anthony Higgins – died last year on 8 December. He suffered a seizure during a police raid on his private jet that had just landed at Chicago’s Midway International Airport.

He later died in hospital despite resuscitation efforts administered with the aid of Narcan – which is used to block the effects of opioids.

The coroner’s office’s official Twitter account tweeted: “Higgins died as a result of oxycodone and codeine toxicity. The manner of death is accident.”

The drugs are used to manage severe pain and contain opioids, which are known to be dangerous if not taken as prescribed.

The “Lucid Dreams” hitmaker often talked about mental health, drugs and dying in his lyrics.

Many celebrities paid homage to Higgins immediately after news of his death aired, including Nicki Minaj and Sting.
