Lionel Messi Wants Out from Barca

August 17, 2020

Lionel Messi has reportedly told FC Barcelona management that he wants to leave, following the club’s spectacular UEFA Champions League quarter-final defeat last Friday, 14 August.

Barca suffered a 2-8 loss to Bayern Munich at Stadium da Luz – a shocking upset that effectively derailed the Catalan giants’ title plans.

The campaign failure also resulted in Messi reconsidering his future with Camp Nou: the club says that they have not heard from their 33-year-old star forward and skipper since the fateful match.

The team’s mismanagement and poor planning are said to be the reasons for Messi’s desire to leave.

His contract with the Spanish team ends in June 2021, and his release clause comes with a hefty price tag of €700 million – one that Manchester City are reportedly keeping a hungry eye on.

Inside sources also claim that Barcelona team manager, Quique Setien, and sporting director, Eric Abidal, are expected to receive their marching orders today, Monday 17 August.

Barcelona’s club president, Josep Maria Martomeu, intend to hold a crisis meeting with the board of directors to discuss the possibility of early elections, and to determine the way forward for the beleaguered team.
