Lucas Perez Wants to Leave Arsenal

July 25, 2017

Arsenal striker, Lucas Perez, reportedly wants to leave the club, after feeling hard done by when The Gunners gave his number nine shirt to new signing, Alexandre Lacazette.

Perez told Spanish website, La Voz de Galicia, that Lacazette had asked manager, Arsene Wenger, for the number nine shirt while on their pre-season tour of China and Australia.

Perez was not included in the tour and has alleged that Wenger handed over the shirt to Lacazette without consulting with him.

“[Arsenal] are not behaving well with me…The thing of taking the shirt number without telling me to give it to a companion, it seems to me the last straw [sic],” he told the website.

Perez continued, calling the situation an ‘ugly gesture’.

This is not Perez’s only issue with Arsenal at the moment.

Last season, the 28-year-old started only three games for The Gunners, and played a total of eleven games in both the English Premier League and the Champions League.

According to La Voz de Galicia, his limited amount of playing time has caused him immense frustration, as well as a desire to return to Spain to play with his former club, Deportivo La Coruna.

Perez left Deportivo for Arsenal in 2016 for a reported fee of £17.1 million.

“I want to leave, to play and be happy…Last year I barely had any opportunities and when I had them I took advantage of them. And this season is clearly going to be more of the same [sic],” Perez said of his 2016/2017 season with Arsenal.

He also told the website that he wants to realise his dream of playing for the Spanish national team at the World Cup, and that he feels Deportivo can help him achieve that.

“I want to fight to go to the [Spanish] national team. I want to play football, but for that I have to leave. And I think that the best place for me is at home, with Depor…To play the World Cup [sic].”

Arsenal has not commented on Perez’s future at the club.
