Matic Joins Manchester United

August 01, 2017

Manchester United have secured another new signing in the form of Serbian midfielder, Nemanja Matic.

The Red Devils announced yesterday that they have signed the 28-year-old from Chelsea on a three-year contract.

While the club did not disclose what Matic’s transfer fee was, there have been various reports suggesting that the deal was close to the £40 million mark.

The deal will see Matic reunite with former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, at Old Trafford.

Following the announcement of his signing, Matic had nothing but praise for the Portuguese manager.

“To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them,” he told reporters.

Mourinho has been similarly enthusiastic regarding the reunion, telling reporters that he is very excited for Matic’s future at United.

“Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player…I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31,” he said.

Matic started his senior career at Serbian club, Kolubara, in 2005. He became a big-name player in 2009, when he joined Chelsea. After stints at other clubs between 2010 and 2014, he rejoined Chelsea under Mourinho’s charge in 2014.
